Our Mission
The Grand River Accessibility Advisory Committee assists the participating municipalities fulfill the purpose of the Ontarians with Disabilities Act and the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act by providing vision and advice in regards to the removal of barriers (physical, architectural, technological, attitudinal).
Our Mandate
The authority to establish the Grand River Accessibility Advisory Committee originated from the provisions of the Ontarians with Disabilities Act and will continue to exist under the provisions of the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act.
Among our mandated tasks are:
- Advising councils annually, as required by legislation, regarding the preparation, implementation and effectiveness of the annual accessibility plans of the participating municipalities.
- Advising participating municipalities on the accessibility of buildings, structures or premises, or part of a building, structure or premises, that the municipalities lease, purchase, construct or significantly renovate.
- Reviewing site plans and drawings under Section 41 of the Planning Act with regards to barrier-free best practices
- Carrying out other functions specified in the Ontarians with Disabilities Act and the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act.
